Büchner Filmproduktion was founded in 1995 by siblings Christiane Büchner and Tobias Büchner. Our goal was to realize joint film projects, and our first film produced in this collaboration, a mockumentary shot in Russia, premiered at the Berlinale in 1996. Since 2008, we have also been producing films outside the family with like-minded directors such as Dario Aguirre (“Five Ways to Dario,” “Land of my Children”), Thorsten Trimpop (‘Furusato’), Steffi Wurster (“RUKLA – Currently no Enemies in sight”), and most recently Sabine Herpich (“Barbara Morgenstern - Doing it for Love”). .We both also work continuously in other contexts and bring our growing experience to our joint projects.

Christiane Büchner works as a freelance director and dramatic advisor. She has been a member of the selection committee for the Forum / Berlinale since 2023. Previously, she worked in program selection for the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. Between 2001 and 2021, she taught documentary film and design at various universities and was a member of the FFA's “Screenplay and Production” funding committee from 2017 to 2024. In addition to her work with film, she is a graphic recordist, documenting her time as a quick sketch artist.

Tobias Büchner has been the internal managing director of zero one film GmbH in Berlin since 2007. In 2017, he was awarded the German Film Prize in Silver as producer of the feature film “24 WEEKS” (directed by Anne Zohra Berrached) and has been a member of the German Film Academy ever since. He teaches in Berlin, Hildesheim, and Hamburg, among other places, as part of teaching assignments and workshops.

This strategy gives us creative freedom and maximum independence as a film production company. Every film is a passion project and unique, and we take the time to develop an individual narrative for each one. As director and producer, we are united by the trust we have as siblings and our shared passion for films. Over the past 25 years, Büchner Filmproduktion has earned a reputation as a producer of sophisticated documentaries and is connected to other filmmakers through several networks (German Film Academy, AG Dok, DAE, laDOC, EAVE, Ex Oriente).
